Brooklyn's legendary Gypsy punk band, Gogol Bordello, was recently named one of the top 20 live bands performing today by Rolling Stone magazine. Anyone who has seen them live will not be surprised the band made the list. To say they are a unique experience would be to grossly understate the obvious.
The band mixes Russian Gypsy music with touches of reggae and punk to create a sound unlike anything you've heard before. Their latest release Super Taranta! received glowing reviews and landed the band a spot on the Letterman show. You can catch them live August 27th at the House of Blues - San Diego along with DJ Scratchy and August 28th at Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.

If you know anything about The Smiths you’ll know from this band’s name that they’re a Smith Tribute band, and a very good one at that. Based out of San Francisco, this 5 piece plays nothing but Smiths and Morrisey covers. Orlandissy takes the helm as the Morrissey front man, sounding and moving just as Moz does.
They played an hour and a half set that covered everything from How Soon is Now to Boy With the Thorn in His Side. The newly remodeled Boardners outdoor stage was packed with fans of the Smiths, who knew every song, without a care that this wasn’t the real thing. These guys nailed it and had a good time doing it too. Next time This Charming Band is in your area go see them whether you're a Smiths fan or not.
